About the event
In this London recital, star cellist Gautier Capuçon joins pianist Adrian Herpe for a journey through three contrasting sound worlds. The evening opens with Robert Schumann’s Fantasiestücke Op. 73 in A minor, a cycle of three poetic miniatures that move between tender introspection, lyrical warmth, and impetuous brilliance. The duo then turns to the deep romanticism of Johannes Brahms’ Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor, Op. 38, a masterpiece that blends contrapuntal rigor with sweeping expressive power, its dark-hued atmosphere giving way to moments of heroic light.
The programme concludes with the electrifying rhythms of Astor Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango, written for cello and piano in 1982. Here, tango nuevo meets classical virtuosity: a surge of colour, drive, and lyric sensuality that brings the recital to a vibrant close.
